If you're a skincare lover, a brand strategist, or just obsessed with how brands break through, this episode is for you.
When creativity hits you, run fearlessly towards it…
I came across an article about the Topicals founder, Olamide Olowe.
She made headlines recently because her holding company acquired Bread Beauty Supply, a haircare brand specializing in curly hair.
A holding company is a corporation that owns enough voting stock in another company (or multiple companies) to control its policies and management. It's essentially an umbrella company that owns and controls the subsidiaries it oversees (wikipedia).
This is history being made in a time when support for marginalized communities dwindles. These two brands have proven their ability to scale, and they will be able to protect the vision, setting an example for other brands to follow.
I went down a rabbit hole, learning all I could about Topicals, and realized there were few comprehensive brand deep dives on Topicals. The brand is only 5 years old, but it has had a tremendous impact on how skincare and beauty evolve. They’re central to a global conversation and shift in black-powered capital.
That’s when creativity strikes: where talent meets opportunity. It took me two weeks to create this video, from inception to publishing, and I hope you enjoy it.
